Azure Data Catalog simplifies data analysis and provides insights. We use it for data transformation, bulk uploads, ETL tasks, and normalization. It's a cloud service that works with cloud and on-premises data sources, providing a hybrid solution. It helps us improve our search and discovery services and move up in the rankings. Azure Data Catalog allows us to create secure data analytic stores, run machine learning on our data, and easily adapt to schema changes. The tool allows us to tag and add descriptions, which enriches the data set. It's a reliable data-security management system.
  • It's easy to use and implement.
  • Ownership of the data.
  • It's helpful for all businesses.
  • Policy on data preservation.
  • It can utilize various data sources.
  • Data management is secure and simple.
  • Cloud service has long upload times.
  • High-stability connections are needed.
  • Unable to export or import some formats.
Azure Data Catalog has helped our data governance and BI efforts. It's an enterprise-level data dictionary that grows with our data ecosystem. We build cloud-native apps with data management tools. And we get insights quickly and with less overhead, and the drag-and-drop interface is one of the best parts of it. Drag-and-drop is easy so that we can deliver quickly. Visual effects make it more flexible. One thing to note is that working on it requires some skill to maintain the integrity of all the components. Another improvement would be lowering the licensing cost.
  • Integration of data and reporting on it
  • No code, drag-and-drop interface.
  • Scalability and security are good.
  • Managing complex data in one place is easier.
  • It provides a space-saving record of our organization's data, assets, and clients.
  • It uses threat monitoring agents to generate real-time alerts and reports.
  • It unifies on-prem and cloud data sources and builds a reporting dashboard.
  • It collects data from different sources, puts it on one plate, and processes it.
We considered alternative tools, but most of our infrastructure was already linked to Azure. Therefore, Azure Data Catalog seemed that integrating the location of our data would be easier and safer. An important feature of UX/UI was the sophisticated data analytics engine. When we have questions or concerns, the support that we receive from the vendor is unparalleled. Easy to use and implement, and cheap compared to other platforms.

Azure data catalog is used by our teams to help with categorizing metadata whilst occupying less Azure storage space. It offers a cloud-based service where data is entered and indexed, making it easy to find each data source. We use it to quickly find the correct data that we need, whether it's for application testing or any task via search.
  • Discovering data is fast.
  • building cloud native solutions.
  • Automatic scanning of azure data sources.
  • Integration with the existing environment.
  • Maintenance and creation of documentation for data sources takes a lot of time
  • One cannot connect to data using a client's app unless they know the locus of the data source.
Azure Data Catalog has greatly improved our data searches. Less time is spent on finding assets, and we are able to get optimum value for our available data assets. Different teams are able to add tags to already registered data sources and even register new sources contributing to the discovery of data.
  • Integration.
  • Data security.
  • Search
  • Less time spent on data searches.
  • Discovering, understanding and consumption of data sources is much easier.
  • We recover data from different locations from a central point.

Our organisation is in the midst of digital transformation. There were data silos which were trying to connect together. Azure data catalogue was helpful in metadata management for data sources. It's our one-stop solution for data discovery. Earlier it was difficult for the business to investigate various data sources we have and the business was more reliant on IT and tech functions for any data discovery-related challenges. With Azure Data Catalogue, business is not only discovering data quickly but also has the proper context they need about the information. This has ultimately resulted in enhanced decision-making and overall efficiencies.
  • data discovery
  • Discovery controls/User controls
  • Integration with existing tools and systems
  • Connection procedures
  • Asset root size can be enhanced
  • Occasionally, data uploading/downloading takes more time
Well suited if your teams are spending more time on looking for data than analysing and finding insights. Azure data catalogue enables quick discovery of data and works with most of the existing systems and tools you have in place. People across the business can get more understanding and context of any data asset in the organisation. Possibilities to shine a light on dark data stuck in silos.
  • Cost effectiveness
  • Easy integration with existing systems
  • Security
  • Improved efficiencies of data related processes
  • Discovery of dark data
  • Improved self-serve culture in the business
Azure Data Catalogue was chosen for
  • Microsoft's customer service and expertise
  • Experience with Azure Cloud Solutions
  • Reviews from peers on functionality and performance
  • Product roadmap
  • Overall costs

Azure Data Catalog combines flexibility, fine-tuning, automation, and sound monitoring. Our primary use case is for advanced analytics data migration. We put it to use in various ETL-related activities, including transforming and normalizing data, bulk uploading, populating data stores, and more. It enables the creation of secure analytic data stores, machine learning on our data, and rapid schema adaptation. One of the tool's most valuable features is its drag-and-drop interface, allowing us to quickly access any data source or table they require. It has changed how we think about storing and getting information. It has revolutionized how we conduct business and the people we can reach and collaborate with worldwide.
  • Drag-and-drop works.
  • Pipeline orchestration tool.
  • Quickly identify data sources.
  • Easy to build cloud-native solutions.
  • Scalable, quick to support, and secure.
  • Multiple choices confuse.
  • Complex implementation.
  • Time-consuming cloud service uploads.
Azure Data Catalog helps us solve data discovery problems brilliantly. Our organization created a single source of truth for our data, which allowed us to develop BI and data science solutions. We can drag tables or data sources to manage workflow. Some of the more complicated data normalization or standardization issues need to be simplified, and I'd like to see that happen.
  • Task-list.
  • Excellent GUI.
  • Multi-Source.
  • Metadata extract.
  • Intuitive navigation.
  • It is brilliant and directly helps us solve data problems, especially those on data discovery.
  • It had a straightforward process that was simple enough that even non-technical people could use it.
  • It is a metadata catalog that spans the entirety of the business and simplifies the process of finding data assets.
To create cloud-native applications, we rely on Azure Data Catalog for data management. I believe it was better suited to our organization and maturity level regarding costs and onboarding procedures. We can get insights quickly and with less work. Familiarity also played a role in our choice. In general, I believe this product is worthwhile. But the IT environment in which it will be deployed will impact this. Therefore, compared to other tools on the market, Azure Data Catalog is the best option.

We use Azure Data Catalog to facilitate and store significant amounts of data and tasks guided by our SCRUM calls and scrum masters. Tasks are updated by individuals or project leaders on a regular basis. Using this software requires a commitment to significant organization, but the features are there to successfully keep our team on track for the many ongoing tasks.
  • Catalogue tasks
  • Allow access to many
  • Track changes/needs
  • Interface seems slightly cluttered
  • More direct help desk for new users
This program works very well. Small tweaks or simplifications would improve user experience for new employees. We usually have to spend some time and have short training sessions with anyone who is new to the application, but they seem to catch on quickly. I think that can be attributed to the interface and help features. Overall, works well and allows a customizable organization.
  • Customizable
  • Access granted to selected individuals
  • Detailed tracking options
  • Increased productivity
  • Better communication
  • Fewer dropped balls
We selected Azure because of other Microsoft products in our ecosystem. The interface and ability to move items across applications like Teams made it easy to adopt. Azure Data Catalog also came highly rated for reliability. We were certain that with it, our people wouldn’t have much down time due to software outages.
